Schwa Activity - Word and Picture Sort for Schwa Words

This schwa activity can be used to consolidate an understanding of schwa. Students will interact with schwa words as they sort the schwa words (with or without pictures) into different categories.

Includes:

• Over 75 schwa picture cards
• 120 schwa word cards

Students can sort the words two ways:

• By beginning, middle or end sound (e.g. schwa found at the start of the words like in ago, schwa found in the middle of words like in dragon, or schwa found in the end of words like in comma).
• By the grapheme representing the schwa sounds e.g. a, o, au, our etc 

Students could also record the words on their whiteboards or in their workbooks, and then underline the schwa sound.
